"What came first..."

"...The music or the misery?"

Interesting quote. I was watching High Fidelity last night, always enjoyed John Cusack's little musings on the impact of music on us as a society, though I don't really think he (or should I say the writer of High Fidelity) was entirely fair in his assessment of what pop music is.

...I don't know why that just popped in my head. I've been feeling very... disjointed lately, thoughts and actions and words popping up at strange times, nothing sinister by any means, just... slightly out of place.

I'm listening to the new Gorillaz album at the moment. It's quite good. However, as far as I can tell it has nothing to do with John Cusack. :D

I don't get it...

...What is it about my job that seems so useless? Do I really look like I twiddle my thumbs that much? I give 12 hours a day to this place and barely have a second to breathe, all in the name of productivity. My job, my LIFE here is dedicated to making our entire network, data, telecoms, whatever, better for our employees. I exist to serve.

This in and of itself does not bother me. Oh no, I am VERY proud of the work my department does here, hell, compared to many other white collar shmos us three little people are practically super-human!

So why, when the three of us are going white scrambling around trying our best to serve the best interests of everyone employed by this company, is it the opinion of our superiors that we do nothing? I was called a "glorified vcr repairman" by someone I cannot even begin to contemplate back talking to for fear of losing my job, and my big bossman seems convinced we will blow it for the whole department if we can't explain why this company needs us in as few syllables as possible, as if the very presence of a computer network, and in fact a computer in every office and attached to every single fucking piece of machinery in this God forsaken plant wasn't indication enough...

So, how is everyone doing today?

Practice

I definitely feel I am lacking in the area of photographing people, so for a while I'm going to see if I can move away a little from the landscapes and HDR tinkering and get a little practice in on capturing a few of the people around me. As always I would love some criticisms and pointers and the like, so feel free to rip apart anything I post without feel of reducing me to a blubbering mess. I want to improve, after all. :D

I just got myself a shiny new lens for my Canon Rebel XSi (50mm f/1.4), so I'll be snapping quite a few pictures of anything at all while I get the hang of it. I apologize in advance for the coming influx of deviations.

An Interesting Turn of Events

Anybody who goes to my page can tell pretty quickly that I take a lot of pictures of the plant I spend most of my days and many of my nights working in. It's interesting to me, lots of nifty little pipes and gears and so on and so forth, but to be honest I never thought anything would come of it. I'm a musician, not a photographer, you know? So I take my pictures and I make my wallpapers, and occasionally I post them on Facebook too, just 'cause, and for some reason my benevolent CEO decided to look at his daughter's page one day and ran across a few TECO pictures I did.

I expected unhappiness, possibly a little righteous anger. Instead I got a job. Now my pictures will be on our newsletters, and apparently they are to be blown up to be printed and framed to put around the new expansion we've been building.

Hell of a hobby.
